Autumn is finally here on the Forty Acres, and our global engagement efforts continue to flourish! In late August, President Jay Hartzell traveled to Mexico City with the largest international delegation in the history of the University to participate in La Feria Internacional del Libro de las Universitarias y los Universitarios ( FILUNI) 2023. UT Austin is the first U.S. university to participate as guest of honor in this book festival and conference, which attracted more than 42,000 participants and 317 university presses worldwide.
I am honored to share our interactive report with you, which details UT Austin’s unparalleled success at FILUNI and showcases the collaborative work of our faculty and students. With more than 50 conference sessions, including musical performances, creative writing master classes, and expert panel discussions on topics such as engineering, architecture, journalism, and global health, our presence in Mexico City demonstrated our commitment to internationalization.
Looking ahead, I am thrilled to announce Take the World by the Horns, a program for first-time-in-college students to launch their academic careers with a semester abroad. Inaugural cohorts will engage in immersive experiential learning in one of three locations during Fall 2024: Copenhagen, Denmark; Panama City, Panama; or Seoul, South Korea.
International Education Week will take place November 13-17, with more than 50 globally focused events across campus, both in person and virtual. I hope you will join us to discover the many ways international education enriches our University and our world.
